I was thinking this morning about why I am United Methodist versus any other Christian denomination. The answer is rather simple. The biggest reason is the theology is most consistent with my personal beliefs.

There are, however, other reasons. One reason is all the opportunities I have been given to learn more and to grow deeper in my faith and my understanding of God’s will.

When I think back on all the Sunday School classes, the emphasis on studying God’s word and the insights I have been able to gain across the years from those with whom I have studied, I am extremely grateful.

The Methodist tradition of meeting with other believers in an accountability group has also been an invaluable help to me across the years. To have trusting relationships with a small group of believers and a safe confidential place to discuss how it is with your soul is a tremendous blessing.

And who doesn’t love our United Methodist food and fellowship? It was such a joy to share in the wonderful feast Veronica lovingly prepared for us to enjoy as we continued to celebrate Keith’s life last week after the service. This Sunday won’t compare with just light refreshments after worship, but I hope you will have time to join in the fellowship.

Finally, the most important reason I am United Methodist is that our mission as United Methodists and as part of Faith UMC is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. This mission resonates with me as one called by God to “go therefore and make disciples of all nations,” to teach as I have been taught, to share the Gospel, the joy and the love of Christ Jesus! Let us go forth in love!

In His Love,

Pastor Peggy,
