“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”

1 Peter 2:9-10

We are God’s people, a royal priesthood. We have been called out of darkness into the light. How amazing is that?

This calls for a response from us, doesn’t it? Along with the great joy and peace that are ours as God’s people, comes the need to respond to God’s Grace in our lives, to respond to His love for us. What reasons might we have for being timid about our response to God? Perhaps our priorities are awry?

Perhaps we just feel inadequate to share God’s love. Some may worry others will resent them and feel they are “pushy” or “too religious.” Perhaps there is a concern about interacting with those we don’t know or who are very different than us.

Although all these responses are normal, Christ’s call on our lives requires us to push ourselves beyond our comfort zones. As the saying goes, we must keep on keeping on, because Scripture tells us if we believe in Jesus we can and will not only do the works that He does but will do even greater works. It tells us that when we have Jesus in our lives, we have seen the Father. Don’t just take my word for it, read John 14:1-14.

Jesus also promised us a Comforter and a guide in the Holy Spirit. We celebrate the gift of the Spirit to the church this Sunday as we celebrate Pentecost.

Jesus promised us he would give us the words we need when we are sharing about him. Are you ready to proclaim with your words and your lives the mighty acts of Him, who called you out of darkness into the marvelous light?

May it be so.

In His Love,
Pastor Peggy
