Pastor’s Page

Greetings from Your Leadership Board,

A couple of weeks ago, we announced our new pastor would be Pastor Judy Bennett
or as she is more often called Pastor Judy. Pastor Judy’s first Sunday with us will be July 2 nd .
We realize not everyone attended that service, either in the sanctuary or online, so we
want to repeat a bit of what was said so you might have a sense of our excitement with Pastor
Judy’s appointment. As part of the appointment process, the District Superintendent
introduced Pastor Judy to the Leadership Board and we had the opportunity to introduce
Faith United Methodist Church to her. After those introductions, the Leadership Board lets
the District Superintendent know whether there are any missional reasons why we believe
the proposed pastor would not be a good fit. We won’t be divulging any confidences if we
share with you that we could not come to consensus fast enough that Pastor Judy was a
fantastic fit with Faith and it was God’s will that we take our next steps together. Frankly, we
could hardly contain our excitement.

Over the course of the next weeks, months and years we will get to know each other
much better, starting when we have an as yet undetermined welcome for her to Faith. We’ll
get you the details on that shortly but in the interim, we’d like to share with you a bit of what
we already know. Pastor Judy’s call to ministry included her serving as a lay servant, a
certified lay servant, a certified lay speaker and a certified lay minister before becoming a
local licensed pastor, serving at Alexandria Chapel United Methodist Church in Indian Head,
Maryland since July 1, 2019. She studied at Embry Riddle University in Atlanta, Georgia and
is currently pursuing the course of study which is required of local licensed pastors at Wesley
Seminary in Washington, D.C.

We are confident that when you meet Pastor Judy, you will be as excited as we are
about the next steps on our faith journey which we will take together.

Peace and Joy,
John, Miguel, Terry, Floyd, Karen, Temple, and Carolyn
